Razer Accelerates Toward Net Zero by 2030, Validated by SBTi

Published on

Razer has pledged to achieve significant environmental targets by 2030, including a 90% reduction in direct emissions and a 55% reduction in indirect emission intensity. This initiative is part of a comprehensive effort to shift towards sustainable energy sources and integrate recycled materials into their products.

Starting with their next generation of products across key PC categories—mice, keyboards, and headsets—Razer will incorporate up to 85% recycled materials into the standard models. These announcements were timed to coincide with Earth Day 2024, highlighting Razer’s dedication to environmental sustainability.

The company’s 2030 targets are aligned with the stringent 1.5-degree Celsius goal set by the Paris Climate Accord, having been rigorously validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). This validation underscores Razer’s role as a frontrunner in promoting substantial climate action consistent with the latest scientific understanding.

Kenneth Ng, Razer’s Global Sustainability Lead, stated, “By standardizing the use of recycled materials across our PC peripherals and committing to the Business Ambition for 1.5°C, we aim to leverage our influence to foster the ecological changes demanded by the global gaming community.”

Razer has embraced a broad strategy to reduce emissions throughout its operations and supply chains. This includes a transition to renewable energy in all corporate facilities, enhancing the sustainability of its products, opting for less carbon-intensive shipping methods, and engaging in robust recycling initiatives. The company’s focus extends to its suppliers, with whom it collaborates to promote the use of recycled materials and ensure transparency in environmental reporting.

Under the #GoGreenWithRazer initiative, Razer is not only advancing its internal practices but also setting industry-wide standards for sustainability. Expected outcomes include that, within a year of these new manufacturing practices, 65% of Razer’s shipped products will be made with recycled materials. Moreover, Razer continues to reduce its packaging impact by eliminating plastics, reducing packaging sizes, adopting minimalistic designs, and using environmentally friendly materials like FSC-certified paper and soy-based inks. The brand also offers varied recycling programs across different markets to encourage responsible disposal of its products.
